Association Storytelling

Established in 1974, the Automotive Manufacturers Association (OSD) has been the cornerstone of Türkiye’s automotive transformation. Representing the country’s OEMs, OSD unites the industry under a shared vision of innovation, sustainability, and global competitiveness.

Throughout its history, OSD has worked in close cooperation with public authorities to strengthen Türkiye’s position within the global mobility landscape. By fostering constructive dialogue between the industry and government, OSD supports the development of policies that enhance the sector’s productivity, technological capability, and international competitiveness.

As the official representative of Türkiye’s automotive industry in international organizations such as OICA and other global platforms, OSD ensures the effective representation of Türkiye’s interests and contributes to shaping the future of the global mobility ecosystem. Guided by its commitment to continuous progress, OSD continues to lead the Turkish automotive sector toward a smarter, greener, and more connected future.

For 51 years, the Association has been successfully advancing the development of Türkiye’s automotive industry with its 13 member companies—each a global player in its field—and its team of dedicated experts.

History

1974 - OSD held its founding meeting on January 11, 1974, bringing together 11 automotive manufacturers. Meeting the legal requirements, the Association was officially established on June 14, 1974, under the name “Industry Association of the Manufacturers of Motorized Land Transportation Vehicles of Trucks, Vans, Tractors, Buses and Automobiles.”

1979 - The Association was renamed as the “Automotive Manufacturers Association” following an amendment to its bylaws.

1990 - 1995 - Actively contributed to Türkiye’s efforts to join the Customs Union with the European Union.

1995 - Became a member of OICA (Organisation Internationale des Constructeurs d’Automobiles).

2006 - Began representing Türkiye in the “Liaison Committee” activities of ACEA (The European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association), where current global and local developments are evaluated with the participation of national associations from EU member states. This enables OSD to closely follow advancements in Technical Legislation and Global Trade, both of which are crucial for the industry’s competitiveness.

2012 - Hosted the OICA General Assembly in Istanbul.

2019 - Published research reports examining the transformation of the global automotive industry and its impact on Türkiye, covering topics as Disruptive Automotive Technologies, Logistics Strategies, and Brexit.

2021 - Published the first “Sustainability Report of the Turkish Automotive Industry.”

2024 - Celebrated its 50th anniversary.

Has launched a four-year project titled “Supporting the Turkish Automotive Industry’s Alignment with the European Green Deal Targets” as of February 1, 2024, within the framework of the European Union’s Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA III/2023/451-966 Civil Society Action Towards the European Green Deal).

Vision

To increase the share of the Turkish Automotive Industry in the Mobility World.
