Operating environment of the car industry is changing rapidly. Main reasons for the change are advancements in technology, new demands from customers and necessity for cleaner and more economical transportation. Technological development and digitalisation will change the traffic sector and automotive related services in the next few decades.
Transportation needs are often related to accustomed use of time and boundaries set by businesses. In general, the needs depend on the development of consumption, production and services. Changes in habits and routines are usually slow as they require changes in personal conduct.
The Finnish government has set ambitious targets for CO2 emission levels by 2030. Meeting these strict targets will require taxation change from registration tax to annual tax or tax by use. The efficiency of transportation will also play an important role in meeting the targets.
